ABOUT US

In 2006, a small team of highly dedicated women committed to poverty eradication, all living in Chennai, found inspiration in an Islamic scholar's advice to rescue the poor from the clutches of pawnbrokers.

As Islam forbids borrowing or lending money on interest, the team formed, Himayath meaning 'support' in Urdu, a non-profit, completely secular micro-credit organization with the objective of providing interest -free finance to women. In 2015, Himayath was renamed 'Anchor' and registered as Anchor Welfare Trust.
